The castle of Châteaudun overlooks the Loir valley, and used to occupy a strategic position at the outermost bounds of the Beauce plain. It was owned by the Orléans family from 1391 to 1710. The former feudal castle was rapidly transformed into a comfortable, light residence. In the courtyard, there are still two stairs with loggias, one in Flamboyant style and the other in Renaissance style.

Chateau de Talcy
Built in 1520 for an Italian banker, Bernard Salviati, this château remains faithful to the local architecture. A well, outbuilding including a wine-press, dovecote, and a garden presently being made into an orchard underline the agricultural character of the estate. Here, Ronsard fell in love with Cassandra, who inspired his famous poem "Mingonne, allons voir ...". The house still has its 18 th century furnishings.

Chateau de Fougeres sur Bievres
The grim, medieval Château de Fougères provides a good contrast to Cheverny. It lies in the village of FOUGÈRES-SUR-BIÈVRE, 10km southwest of Cheverny, and was built in 1470 by Louis XI's chancellor, who was clearly sceptical about long-term peace.
